How Does Scar Revision Treatment Work?
Ideally, most effective treatments occur shortly after the wound is healed and before scar tissue has a chance to set in.
Whether the scar started out raised, pitted or discolored, one or a combination of the following three different treatment options are used to support scar reduction:
Over a series of Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing treatments, energy is delivered to the scarred area to trigger collagen regeneration. This process smooths out scars and reduces the appearance of scarring. Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing is the same treatment used to reduce stretch marks. Learn more about Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing here.
Sometimes our Denver skin care clients combine our Intense Pulsed Light Photofacial treatments with our Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment or use it on its own to reduce redness or irregular pigmentation in scars.
Another option we offer to help with scar reduction is prescription grade treatment creams.
These creams contain Retin-A, a resurfacing agent, and hydroquinone, a chemical skin bleaching ingredient.
They can be used on their own to lighten and shrink scars.
For best results, it can be used in conjunction with our Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment and/or our Intense Pulsed Light Photofacial treatment.
This scar lightening cream is the same prescription strength solution used to reduce stretch marks.
the scar reduction processWhat to Expect
Treatment time will range from 30-45 minutes for a small or medium sized treatment area and up to 75 minutes for a large area.
Topical numbing cream is applied for 30 minutes prior.
Numbing cream is removed and skin is cleansed thoroughly.
Goggles must be worn throughout the treatment to protect your eyes.
The laser head, the size of a quarter, pulses multiple micro laser beams into the skin overlapping until the entire scar is treated. Multiple passes may be performed depending on the size and depth of the scar.
The discomfort experienced during treatment is minimal. Cold ice rollers are available for extra comfort.
When finished a topical healing cream is applied.

How Does Laser Scar Removal Work?
Although we may never be able to fully remove your scars we will reduce their appearance and fade them from view. Laser scar treatment works by delivering heat columns into the skin to break up scar tissue. This heat causes slight damage to the tissue resulting in collagen stimulation. The production of collagen helps the skin return to its natural state.
What Types Of Scars Can Be Treated?
With scar revision treatments plan on seeing improvement in all types of facial and body scars. Old scars, new scars, hypertrophic (raised at the site), atrophic (pitted or sunken), dark scars, surgical scars, wound healing scars, road rash, and red scars can all be treated.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Reducing the appearance of your scar will take some time. Although you will see improvements fairly quickly we recommend a series of at least three treatments, but the number of treatments are directly related to the amount of improvement you can achieve. Some patients have required up to twelve treatments for best results. For some of our Denver scar revision clients, Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is also added to assist in toning down red or brown coloring in the scar which helps obtain your most optimal result.
Am I A Good Candidate For Laser Scar Removal?
If you have a scar that’s been bothering you please don’t hesitate to discuss with us your options for treatment. Our laser is safe for all skin types, from very light to very dark. We recommend coming in for a complimentary consultation so that we can take a look and give you realistic options for treatment and treatment outcomes.
Does Laser Treatment For Sear Reduction Hurt?
We apply numbing cream about 20-30 minutes before your session so most of our clientele report a very comfortable experience. Once the numbing cream wears off, it will feel like a sunburn in the area and we send you home with ice.
What Should I Expect After Treatment?
You will experience some warmth, redness and slight swelling in the treated area. A topical wound healing cream will be applied and ice is recommended intermittently post-treatment for comfort and proper healing. Keep the area moist with Aquaphor and protected from the sun with SPF daily. You may also refer to our aftercare page for more a detailed description.
When Should I Start Scar Revision Treatments?
It is always best to start scar revision treatments as soon as the wound has healed, our treatments can be used at any time. It is never too late to lighten and reduce scars.
I go to Denver Laser Solutions for Botox and laser hair removal and all the girls are amazing. I usually see Mara, she is so thorough and welcoming and makes me feel so comfortable. The last time I went, she did my Botox and it’s literally the BEST job I’ve ever had. I’m very picky with my face, and this is the only place I trust for my injectables. I recommend to all my friends and family.
