Reduce the appearance of acne scars by smoothing the skin’s texture and stimulating collagen production. We have a variety of options for treating acne scars depending on the severity that can help to boost confidence and self-esteem.

ACNE SCAR REDUCTION TREATMENT

Acne can leave behind a devastating reminder. Thankfully at Denver Laser Solutions, we get great results improving both old and new acne scars on the face and body.

We recommend clients schedule a complimentary skin consultation to determine if you are a good candidate for treatment and explore recommended treatment options. Certain skin care products, such as Retin-a, Hydroquinone, and Alpha hydroxy acids may be required for your skin to tolerate treatments better and to produce more significant outcomes.

Types of Acne Scars We Treat
Acne scars can be classified into two main types: atrophic and hypertrophic.

Atrophic Acne Scars

Atrophic scars are indentations in the skin caused by a loss of collagen and are the most common type of acne scar. Examples include rolling scars, boxcar scars, and ice-pick scars.

Rolling scars: have a wave-like appearance and are caused by a loss of collagen in the skin. They are often wider than they are deep.

Boxcar scars: have sharp edges and a defined shape, similar to the appearance of a box. They are caused by a loss of collagen and elastin in the skin.

Ice-pick scars: are deep, narrow, and V-shaped. They are caused by a loss of collagen and elastin in the skin.

Hypertrophic Scars

Hypertrophic scars are raised, thickened areas of tissue that occur at the site of the original acne lesion. They are less common than atrophic scars.

Keloid scars: are raised, thick scars that extend beyond the boundaries of the original wound. They occur when the skin overproduces collagen during the healing process.

Hypertrophic scars: are raised, thick scars that remain within the boundaries of the original wound. They occur when the skin overproduces collagen during the healing process.

Acne Scar Reduction Treatment options

  • Topical skincare products: Retin-a, Alpha hydroxy acids, Hydroquinone, etc.
  • TCA Chemical Peels
  • Non-ablative fractional laser treatments (1540 Laser)
  • Microneedling
  • Ablative Fractional Laser treatment (CO2 Laser)

Each option has their own advantages and disadvantages, and can be used together in a series depending on the type of acne scars. We recommend scheduling a complimentary consultation so we can go over what works best for your skin and lifestyle.

Most Aggressive Approach To Treating Acne Scars

To achieve the best result, the most aggressive strategy is to treat acne scars with CO2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing .

CO2 treatments require your cooperation in ensuring you’re realizing results by following pre and post-care instructions. Physical downtime is required. This treatment may not be suitable for everyone. A consultation with our skilled aesthetician is required prior to scheduling.

A Second Option For Treating Acne Scars

Another option is to use a combination of both TCA chemical peels and non-ablative fractional laser treatments for acne scar reduction. This option has less downtime, can be used on all skin types, but will take more treatments compared to a CO2 laser.

  • TCA peels assist in removing several layers of superficial skin to thin the epidermis and soften the depth of acne ice-pick scars.
  • TCA peels will also help correct acne based post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) or darkening of the skin residual from an acne breakout, also known as acne dark spots.
  • Fractional Nonablative laser pushes columns of heat into the skin causing an injury, creating an inflammatory response that results in the creation of more collagen and even texture.
  • We alternate TCA chemical peels and fractional nonablative laser every 6 weeks.

The two treatments complement each other with the goal of thinning the top layers with peels and thickening the dermal layer with the laser. Treatments in this combination produce significant improvement for acne scars.

Acne Scar Reduction – get the help you need and the skin you deserve

Acne scars can have a significant impact on a person’s self-esteem and self-confidence. They can make a person feel self-conscious and may lead to social anxiety. Additionally, some people may feel that their acne scars make them look older or less attractive, which can further contribute to self-esteem issues.

Some people may also experience physical discomfort or pain as a result of their acne scars. This can be especially true for those who have raised hypertrophic scars, which can be sensitive to the touch.

It is important to note that acne scars can also be a combination of the above types and not all scars will fit in a defined category.

It is best to schedule a consultation with our skincare professionals to determine the type of scarring and the best treatment plan will help you achieve the best results.

Getting rid of acne scars can help improve one’s self-esteem, self-confidence, and overall well-being. It can also help to alleviate any physical discomfort or pain caused by scars.

frequently asked questions
  • How Do Acne Scars Form?

Acne scars are a result of inflammation in the skin surrounding a pimple. There is a breakdown of collagen from the inflammation, which can create depressions and pits in the skin.  In addition, in an attempt to repair some of the damage from the breakout, our skin may try to create more collagen, leading to uneven texture and the formation of raised or rolling scars.

  • How Do Acne Scar Treatments Work?

We have a variety of treatments that can be used for acne scar treatment, but they all have the same concept: we create a small injury to the skin to stimulate the body’s natural healing process.  This creates new collagen and elastin, and in turn will help even out the peaks and valleys of the texture of the skin, as well as improve color and tone.

  • How Long Does it Take for Acne Scars to Go Away?

Depending on the severity of the acne scars, it can take several treatments, usually spaced at least 6 weeks apart.  The collagen remodeling process is slow, and will take at least 3-6 months for us to see the full results of the treatment.

  • How Many Laser Acne Scar Removal Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatments is directly related to the severity of the acne scars. Mild acne scars will need less treatments compared to someone who has more severe acne scars.  We recommend coming in for a free consultation so that we can analyze your skin, talk about options and give you realistic expectations about what results we can achieve in clinic.

  • Am I A Good Candidate For Acne Scar Treatment?

We do not recommend acne scar removal treatments for clients still struggling with chronic acne.  If you are still breaking out, TCA peels are a great option for treating acne and scars at the same time.

  • Does Laser Treatment For Acne Scars Hurt?

The treatment is quite comfortable, we use numbing cream and ice to ensure patient comfort.

I go to Denver Laser Solutions for Botox and laser hair removal and all the girls are amazing. I usually see Mara, she is so thorough and welcoming and makes me feel so comfortable. The last time I went, she did my Botox and it’s literally the BEST job I’ve ever had. I’m very picky with my face, and this is the only place I trust for my injectables. I recommend to all my friends and family.
