Are You Exfoliating Correctly?
Exfoliation is an important part of a good skin care regime. It removes dead cells to keep your skin feeling healthy and great. Generally, most people should exfoliate two to three times a week, but it can vary based on skin type. Many of our Denver skin care clients with oily skin exfoliate up to four or five times a week, whereas those with drier skin exfoliate one to two times a week. We always recommend you exfoliate at night because some people have minor skin sensitivities to the process. For people who tend to have oily skin we recommend using products such as Alpha Complex by Yon-Ka Paris that contain glycolic and salicylic acid. For drier skin use exfoliating products such as Yonka Gommage #305, an exfoliating mask that hydrates while it exfoliates. We recommend products such as Fruitelia which contain lactic acid for sensitive skin or skin with hyper pigmentation. You should never use products which could cause skin damage such apricot scrubs, high chemical peels you purchase over the Internet or any other product that may cause you to break out, have redness and/or irritation. These are general guidelines, but of course everyone needs to modify their skin care methodologies based on their own skin type and goals. You should reduce the number of times you exfoliate and/or change exfoliation products if you experience any of these symptoms: Your face or skin remains red or sensitive after exfoliation. Your skin is itchy and/or appears to have hives. Your skin feels extremely dry after exfoliating. Finding the perfect products and skin care schedule is critical to those who want healthy and beautiful skin.
