the science of
CoolSculpting

The science associated with CoolSculpting is called Cryolipolysis. Cryolipolysis is the process of using specifically designed applicators to kill selected subcutaneous fat by cooling it. Subcutaneous fat is the fat immediately below the skin that causes bumps and bulges such as love handles, the bulge from the bra, back fat, double chins etc.

The Science of CoolSculpting is

Created by Harvard scientists, CoolSculpting is the only FDA approved non-surgical, non-invasive treatment that naturally removes stubborn fat from areas resistant to diet and exercise. CoolSculpting fat-freezing treatment uses controlled cooling to naturally eliminate stubborn fat.

Non-Surgical

A cupped applicator is placed on top of the skin delivering cold temperatures through the skin to freeze the fat cells, essentially destroying them.

Comfortable Treatment

Lay down and relax with a book, watch a movie, or work on your laptop pain free throughout the course of your treatment.

Downtime

No Downtime

Keep doing what your doing! After your treatment, the area might be a little sore, tender to the touch or have very light, but unnoticeable to others, swelling.

Science of CoolSculpting

In the 1960’s, scientists learned the effects that cold has on fat cells via observing children sucking on popsicles for a long period of time. What they discovered with these children is that after a few days they had an inflammation of fat that would then atrophy and go away.

They observed with these children that the fat would come immediately back, but that it would NOT with adults. This observation of fat, when exposed to cold temperatures and not returning with adults, is what led to the invention of Cryolipolysis and CoolSculpting technology!

CoolSculpting Is For Contouring NOT Weight Loss

Subcutaneous fat, the fat eliminated with CoolSculpting treatments, is different from visceral fat cells, the fat that surrounds your organs and causes you to gain weight. To lose weight you must shrink visceral fat cells. CoolSculpting does not treat visceral fat cells, so CoolSculpting does NOT help you lose weight.

Interestingly, when we gain weight the fat cells in our body get bigger, and as we lose weight those same cells get smaller. With people who are within their normal body weight, the number of their fat cells is determined during early adolescence and remains relatively consistent throughout their lives. Our fat cells are replaced at about 10% per year so as the fat cells are removed through CoolSculpting it takes time for them to replenish.

CoolAdvantage Applicators

CoolSculpting machine delivers controlled cooling to pockets of stubborn fat via applicators of different sizes and shapes. Vacuum pressure firmly grips and hold the applicator in place for 35 minutes causing cryolipolysis.

All body types and are unique, is important to make the proper selection, positioning, and usage of the various CoolSculpting applicators to achieve the most effective results.

    • Known sensitivity to cold such as cold urticaria or Raynaud’s disease, pernio, or chilblains
    • Known sensitivity or allergy to isopropyl alcohol, propylene glycol, fructose, and glycerin
    • Impaired peripheral circulation in the area to be treated
    • Nerve pain such as post-herpetic neuralgia or diabetic neuropathy
    • Impaired skin sensation
    • Open or infected wounds
    • Bleeding disorders or simultaneous use of blood thinners
    • Recent surgery or scar tissue in the area to be treated
    • Hernia in or adjacent to the treatment site
    • Skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, or rashes in the area to be treated
    • The effect of performing treatments directly over active implanted devices, such as pacemakers and defibrillators, is not known
    • Chronic pain
    • Anxiety disorder

Important Safety Information

  • During Treatment

    • Sensations of pulling, tugging, and mild pinching at the treatment site
    • Intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching, and cramping. These sensations subside as the area becomes numb
  • Immediately After Treatment

    • Redness and firmness
    • Transient blanching and/or mild bruising around the edges of the treatment area
    • Tingling and stinging
  • One To Two Weeks After Treatment:

    • Redness, bruising, and swelling
    • Tenderness, cramping, and aching
    • Itching, skin sensitivity, tingling, and numbness. Numbness can persist up to several weeks after a treatment.
    • Sensation of fullness in the back of the throat after submental area treatment.
  • Rare Side Effects

    • Paradoxical hyperplasia: Visibly enlarged tissue volume within the treatment area, which may develop 2 to 5 months after treatment, possibly even after a visible result is noticed. **Surgical intervention is required for correction.
    • Late-onset pain, with a typical onset several days after a treatment and resolution within several weeks.
    • Frostbite: First- and second-degree frostbite may occur during treatment. It typically resolves without additional side effects with proper care.
    • Vasovagal symptoms: Dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, flushing, sweating, or fainting during or immediately after the treatment.
    • Subcutaneous induration: Generalized hardness and/or discrete nodules within the treatment area, which may develop after the treatment and may present with pain and/or discomfort.
    • Hyperpigmentation: Dark coloration may occur after treatment. Typically, it resolves spontaneously.
    • Hernia: Treatment may cause new hernia formation or exacerbate pre-existing hernia, which may require surgical repair,
